Artist Statement
Since the beginning of my academic career, my research and creative scholarship have focused on exploring the influences of cultural factors (Asian vs. Western). I have developed several empirical studies related to cross-cultural influences and extensive creative scholarship inspired by my own cultural heritage (Asian culture).
The goal of my creative scholarship has been to create a garment that incorporates both Eastern and Western cultural inspirations while exploring innovative and modern ways of prolonging the life of post-consumer recycled clothing. I have used various surface design techniques, such as hand weaving and digital textile printing, as well as advanced pattern development skills to achieve this goal. Recently, two of my wearable artwork were recognized by the International Textiles and Apparel Association and earned the 1st Place Cotton Incorporated Innovations in Cotton Design Award and ATEXINC Award for Excellence in Marketable Textile Design in 2013.
