Artist Statement

I am an abstract painter who responds to sources through synthesis and hybrid. My central theme considers science as a neutral or neutralizing structure; a kind of blank metaphor which allows me to let things be in the work… botanic forms, geometric structures and physical effects of tiny processes in, for example; melting ice, burning wood, swarming insects  or vortices formed by moving air and water.

The images presented here are a family of forms that focus on morphology, shapes and forms indicating states of growth or becoming and resonate for me in terms of what is happening in my paintings right now. I’m primarily drawn to organisms found in nature and respond to their power as factual beginnings in making paintings.  In the same way that a landscape painter might use the landscape as a factual beginning.
