Artist Statement

Sun Lin’s work embodies the harmony between humans and nature, as well as emits strong personal characteristics. Early works of flowers and birds in meticulous style, such as “Small Clear River,” focus on careful choice of position, exquisite use of brush strokes and color, and the full expression of excitement and poetry. For the past 10 years, he has visited many natural landscapes, thus enabling him to integrate the perception of life and kindness towards the natural environment with his own creations of art. Having repeatedly pondered over and refined pen and ink, image, diagram, and sight, his artworks are now full of vigorous rhythm and visual impact. He creates a new motif of painting of flowers and birds, incorporating traditional context and visual tension. This means great progress in the circle of paintings of flowers and birds in China, such as “The Sound of Spring and March in a Village in Sichuan.” This set of Chinese ink paintings adopts the perspectives of the subject, the birds, to view the trees, vines, leaves, and rocks in the background. These shapes are densely stacked with brushstrokes and huge in size, yet produce a tranquil feeling, far from chaos.
