吉磊的绘画中始终透着灰度的回忆。那些隐约闪现的拼接的画面像是旅途中的速写涂鸦，抑或是数年后的追忆诗篇。它们由意识流链接，被厚实的笔触一遍遍地覆盖，形成并不连贯的画面线索。与很多画风固定的艺术家不同，吉磊更重视绘画的不定性与丰富性：不拘一格的绘画手段，以及阶段性的主题研究，使得吉磊一直保持对待自己与绘画的自律、真诚和自由。穿过画中的背影，我们仿佛看到那个在路上的徒步少年，从未有过改变。

Grey memories permeate Ji Lei’s paintings. His faint pictures look like sketches and doodles accumulated along a journey or recalling the distant past after a trip. The paintings are connected by a stream of consciousness and covered by heavy brushwork, which has laid down inconsistent clues. Unlike artists who have a fixed painting style, Ji Lei focuses more on uncertainty and diversity. Free of a predominant, set style of work, Ji Lei’s periodic thematic study enables him to maintain his self-discipline and the integrity of his paintings so that they elicit both sincerity and freedom. When we look past the shadows of the picture, we seem to witness a wandering teenager who has never changed from when he set off his journey.
